When combining an office with a laboratory, a high volume of technical installations is involved. On top of that, the client had the wish to develop a flexible office. This led to a close cooperation, from the very start of the design process, between the architect, the structural engineer and the installations consultant. The result was an design which integrates construction, installations and interior architecture.
The internal structure of the building comprises of an office section and a lab section with an entrance in the middle, with an elevator and open stairs. From this transparent entrance area, the infrastructure of the entire building is visible.
In both wings, the construction and installations have been intertwined as much as possible. The office section is fitted with the Slimline floor system due to the flexibility requirements and energy efficient properties. The floor also acts as a plenum for exhaust air.
